Bio
I'm a California kid, hailing from the greater Sacramento area. I left home in 2000 to attend college and play football at Princeton University in New Jersey. After graduating with a degree in History, I moved to Washington DC and became a personal trainer for 3 years while I saved up money for grad school. In 2009, right after my first tour in the CrossFit Games, I enrolled in a European History Masters program through Oxford University. I used this experience as a springboard to travel the world and create the company Anywherefit. Since then I have been leading crossfitters around the globe on trips that combine fitness, adventure, and history. We have been to Iceland (3x), Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, Prague, Munich, Paris, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, and more. To continue traveling the world and physically engaging with the environment everywhere I go is my passion.

How I Train
I've always been the type of person who liked sports better than video games. When I was a kid I was on the swim team, tennis team, baseball team, soccer team, you name it. The only thing I didn't really like about sports was when they made us play them indoors. This thirst for outdoor activity has carried over into my CrossFit career as well. While I like lifting heavy shit as much as the next guy, my true identity when it comes to fitness is creating cool ways to do it outside the gym. Rings, ropes, and sandbags are my favorite tools because they're portable. Hills, walls, and trees are my biggest allies. My favorite event in my CrossFit career was at the 2011 NorCal Regionals when we did the deadlift/box jump couplet in the pouring rain. Something about being in the elements makes the experience more real to me. As far as nutrition goes, I eat a largely Paleo diet, with the exception of rice and potatoes. I eat a crapload of those. But I avoid dairy and beans, and all white flour if I can. Because I'm an athlete I try not to stress about my food too much. I realize that people can go overkill with just about everything and the added stress of trying to be perfect probably isn't worth the minor gains it might offer. If I had to sum up my philosophy on fitness, it'd go something like this: I want to be a badass human, capable of doing any activity at any given time with any given person/competitor. The better I can prepare myself for that reality, the happier I'll be.
