Bio
I was born and raised in Portugal, but came to the U.S. almost 15 years ago after getting my doctorate. In my “past life” I worked in academics/medicine, but gave it up to pursue the Olympic dream in my original sport of swimming. I picked up CrossFit as my strength and conditioning method to help me achieve my swimming goals. After failing to make the 2012 Olympics I decided not to go back to academics and made CrossFit my way of life.
I have been coaching and competing full time since the end of 2012 and have not looked back. Traveling is one of my passions. Before settling in Northern California I lived the wanderlust life coaching and living in Portugal, Spain, Brazil and a couple of locations in Australia. These days I try to find any excuse possible for CrossFit to take me to any place I have not been to yet. Just this past year I got to compete/coach/visit friends in 13 different countries, bringing my total visited countries to 54! My life is fairly simple, but I wouldn't trade it for anything!
When I am not training or coaching, I am usually thinking about food (isn't that every CrossFitter's vicious cycle? Haha) and drinking FitAid. I often have what I call "3-FitAid-a-day." Is there a better drink to fuel my day? I don't think so!

How I Train
I have made big changes this year that so far seem to be paying off. I moved to CrossFit Anywhere, where I get to be coached and train with Blair Morrison. Blair is likely the complete opposite of me as an athlete and has made significant contributions to improving my weaknesses (gymnastics/body weight). The way I train changes throughout the year depending on the competition. These days I consider myself a more mature athlete and one of the major changes from previous years comes in the rest/recovery department. I once had a plan that I followed regardless; these days my body dictates how I put that plan in action. The big change has resulted in less injuries, a lot more energy and better results in competitions. While I have always been a strength focused athlete, I now have some gymnastics added to my arsenal, something I have learned to enjoy!
